Frequently asked questions and troubleshooting
Getting Started
How do I set up the app?
When you first open the app, you’re ready to go. Optionally, head to Settings to personalize:
- Enter your baby’s name
- Set your display name (labels who logged each entry)
- Choose your preferred unit (mL or oz)
- Set your daily water goal
- Configure feed alarm intervals
What types of feeds can I track?
BumpTrackr Feeding Log supports four feed types:
- Breast — Direct breastfeeding with side tracking (left, right, or both) and duration timer
- EBM (Expressed Breast Milk) — Bottle feeds with volume tracking
- Formula — Bottle feeds with volume tracking
- Combo — Mixed feeds combining breast and bottle
Each entry can also include notes, diaper status, and medication tracking.
Logging Feeds
How do I log a feed?
Tap the + button on the home screen to open the logging sheet. Choose your feed type, enter the details, and tap Save. You can also:
- Use Repeat Last to quickly duplicate your most recent feed
- Use Quick Log Presets for one-tap logging of common feeds
- Edit the date and time if you’re logging a past feed
How does the feeding timer work?
When logging a breast feed, tap Start to begin timing. The timer runs in the background — you can close the app and return later. Tap Stop when the feed ends. The duration is recorded automatically.
Can I edit or delete a feed?
Yes. Tap any feed entry in the History tab to edit it. Swipe left on an entry to delete it. Changes sync automatically with your partner if sharing is enabled.
What are Quick Log Presets?
Presets let you save common feed configurations for one-tap logging. Go to Settings → Quick Log Presets to create custom presets with a specific feed type, amount, and breast side. Defaults are provided but you can customize them.
Pumping Sessions
How do I track a pump session?
From the log sheet, switch to the Pumping tab. You can:
- Use the built-in timer with start/stop controls
- Track output volume per side (left and right)
- Mark let-down times during the session
- Set the estimated breast volume per minute in Settings for automatic estimation
Water Tracking
How does water tracking work?
The home screen shows a water tracking card with your daily progress. Use the quick-add buttons to log a glass or bottle of water, or tap Custom to enter a specific amount. Recent entries are shown on the card.
Can I customize glass and bottle sizes?
Yes. Go to Settings → Hydration to set:
- Daily water goal (adjustable in 250 mL / 8 oz increments)
- Glass size (default 250 mL, adjustable 100–500 mL)
- Bottle size (default 500 mL, adjustable 250–1000 mL)
- Water unit (mL or oz, independent from your feed volume unit)
Can I edit or delete water entries?
Yes. Tap any recent water entry on the card to edit it. Long-press (or use the context menu) to delete. Changes sync with your partner if sharing is enabled.
Partner Sync
How do I share with my partner?
- Go to Settings → Partner Sync
- Tap Generate Invite Link — this creates a share link
- Send the link to your partner via Messages, AirDrop, or any method
- Your partner opens the link on their device with BumpTrackr Feeding Log installed
- Both devices now sync feeding data in real time via iCloud
What data syncs between partners?
All feeding entries, pumping sessions, and water intake sync between paired devices. Each entry is labeled with who logged it (your display name). App preferences (units, alarms, presets) are per-device and do not sync.
How do I remove a partner or stop sharing?
- Owner (person who created the share): Go to Settings → Partner Sync → Remove Partner, or Leave Shared Log to delete the share entirely
- Partner (person who accepted the invite): Go to Settings → Partner Sync → Leave Shared Log
Leaving immediately revokes access. No data is deleted from either device — each person keeps their local copy.
Sync seems delayed — what should I do?
CloudKit sync depends on network conditions and iCloud availability. Try:
- Make sure both devices are connected to the internet
- Open the app on both devices (sync triggers on launch)
- Pull to refresh on the History tab
- Check that iCloud is enabled: Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Apps Using iCloud
Sync typically completes within a few seconds but may take up to a minute on slower connections.
Smart Alarms & Notifications
How do feed alarms work?
You can set a recurring alarm interval (1–4 hours) in Settings → Feed Alarm. After each feed, the app schedules a local notification to remind you when the next feed is due. Alarms can be enabled or disabled per your preference.
What are Smart Reminders?
Smart Reminders watch for gaps between feeds. If you enable them in Settings, the app will notify you if a certain number of hours have passed since the last feed — helpful for overnight stretches. The gap threshold is adjustable from 3 to 6 hours.
Trends & Charts
What trends can I see?
The Trends tab shows visual charts for your feeding data:
- Daily view — Feed-by-feed timeline for a specific day
- Weekly view — Total volumes and feed counts per day
- Monthly view — Weekly averages and patterns over time
Charts show feeding distribution by type, volume trends, and frequency patterns.
Data & Privacy
Where is my data stored?
All data is stored locally on your device and synced via your personal iCloud account. We don’t operate any servers. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How do I export my data?
Go to Settings → Export Data. Choose CSV or JSON format. The export file is created locally and you can share it via AirDrop, Files, email, or any sharing method.
How do I import data?
Go to Settings → Import Data. Select a CSV file from your device. The importer matches column headers automatically and skips duplicate entries.
What happens if I delete the app?
Locally stored data is permanently removed. iCloud data can be managed separately via Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Manage Storage. If sharing was active, your partner keeps their local copy of the data.
Troubleshooting
My partner can’t open the share link
- Make sure BumpTrackr Feeding Log is installed on your partner’s device
- Both devices must be signed in to iCloud with different Apple IDs
- Check that iCloud Drive is enabled on both devices
- Try generating a new invite link if the original has expired
The timer keeps running after I close the app
This is expected behavior. The feed timer persists in the background so you don’t lose your timing. Reopen the app and tap Stop when the feed is done.
Feeds from late at night show on the wrong day
Feeds that cross midnight (e.g., starting at 11:50 PM and ending at 12:10 AM) are handled automatically. The app groups feeds by their start time. If a feed appears on an unexpected day, check the start time in the entry details.
The app seems slow or unresponsive
- Make sure your device is running iOS 17 or later
- Try closing and reopening the app
- If you have a very large feeding history, the app may take a moment to load on first launch
- Restart your device if issues persist
About
What iOS version is required?
BumpTrackr Feeding Log requires iOS 17.0 or later.
Is this related to BumpTrackr?
Yes! BumpTrackr Feeding Log is a companion app to BumpTrackr, which tracks pregnancy from conception through delivery. Feeding Log picks up where BumpTrackr’s postpartum mode begins, providing dedicated newborn feeding tools.
Where do the feeding tips come from?
The daily tip cards feature evidence-based facts sourced from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), World Health Organization (WHO), La Leche League International, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). However, this app is not a substitute for professional medical advice. Always consult your pediatrician or lactation consultant.
